Dr Christian Jessen gives e-cigs the thumbs up!
On Thursday 9th May it was the second UK Vaping Industry Association Annual Forum and the Naturopathic Nutrition Association (NNA) had been invited. The NNA are the professional association for Nutritional Therapists who practice in accordance with naturopathic principles, and the keynote speaker was Dr Christian Jessen – who is actually a supporter of e-cigarettes as an innovative method for smokers to quit tobacco.
In his own informed and inspiring way, he used clear pharmaceutical links to demonstrate how the positive aspects of vaping already suffers from the intervention of people who’s intentions are not powered by the best interests of the general population. He is confident in time that these messages will be diluted and shown to be irrelevant.
In a session on smoking cessation, MP Sir Kevin Barron of the APPG on Smoking and Health explained he is in favour of the industry getting involved and if it helped people with from tobacco then it didn’t matter who made them.
These respected and influential people overtly discussed the misguided public perception around vaping, unnecessary panics, vaping bans, the lack of accommodation for vaping in daily life and ultimately how even in the UK, where the harm reduction is understood – there is a lot still to do.
There is a lot to do, and there will be more regulation, but the UK it would seem has a growth mindset. The UK is warming to listening and understanding how to execute this regulation, with the needs of customers and smoking cessation at the forefront of its decisions.
